Add elapsed time in parts: the whole hours first, then the minutes. When the minutes reach 60, that's one more hour. Crossing 12 o'clock switches between a.m. and p.m.

Common mistakes to watch for

  • Treating time like a decimal, so 9:50 plus 20 minutes becomes 9:70.
  • Forgetting to switch from a.m. to p.m. after 12 o'clock.
  • Adding the hours to the minutes, or the minutes to the hours.

FAQ

How do you add time that crosses the hour?

Add the hours, then the minutes. If the minutes reach 60 or more, change 60 minutes into one more hour: 2:45 + 30 minutes = 2:75 = 3:15.

What changes when the time crosses noon or midnight?

The clock starts again at 12, and a.m. changes to p.m. at noon (or p.m. to a.m. at midnight). 11:30 a.m. plus 2 hours is 1:30 p.m.

Is every worksheet different?

Yes. Numbers are generated each time, and the answer key is calculated for that sheet. Swap any single question and its answer updates too.

Can I mix elapsed time with other skills?

Yes. In the generator, add more skills; each gets its own section on the sheet with its own instructions.

Is it free to print?

Yes. Generating and printing from the browser is free with no sign-up. PDF downloads need a free account.
