Worksheet variations

A quarter is worth 25¢, a dime 10¢, a nickel 5¢ and a penny 1¢. Start with the coins worth the most and count on: by 25s for quarters, 10s for dimes, 5s for nickels and 1s for pennies. 100¢ is one dollar, so 135¢ is $1.35.

  • Writing 135¢ as $13.5 instead of $1.35.

FAQ

What's the easiest order to count coins?

Start with the coins worth the most and count on: quarters by 25s, then dimes by 10s, nickels by 5s and pennies by 1s. Two quarters and three dimes make 25, 50, 60, 70, 80 cents.

Why is a nickel worth more than a dime if it's bigger?

It isn't: a dime is worth 10 cents and a nickel 5 cents, even though the nickel is larger. Coin size doesn't match coin value, which is why children need to learn each coin.

Is every worksheet different?

Yes. Numbers are generated each time, and the answer key is calculated for that sheet. Swap any single question and its answer updates too.

Can I mix counting coins with other skills?

Yes. In the generator, add more skills; each gets its own section on the sheet with its own instructions.

Is it free to print?

Yes. Generating and printing from the browser is free with no sign-up. PDF downloads need a free account.
