Worksheet variations

Find the digit in the rounding place and look at the digit just to its right: 5 or more rounds up, 4 or less rounds down. Drop every digit after the rounding place. Keep a final zero when it is the rounding place, so 4.96 rounded to the nearest tenth is 5.0, not 5.

  • Looking at the rounding digit itself instead of the digit to its right.

  • Dropping the final zero, as in writing 5 for 4.96 rounded to the nearest tenth.

FAQ

Why does 4.96 round to 5.0 and not 5?

Rounding to the nearest tenth keeps one decimal place, so the answer is written 5.0. The zero shows the number is accurate to the tenths.

Which digit decides the rounding?

The digit right after the place you're rounding to. To round to the nearest hundredth, look at the thousandths digit.

Is every worksheet different?

Yes. Numbers are generated each time, and the answer key is calculated for that sheet. Swap any single question and its answer updates too.

Can I mix rounding decimals with other skills?

Yes. In the generator, add more skills; each gets its own section on the sheet with its own instructions.

Is it free to print?

Yes. Generating and printing from the browser is free with no sign-up. PDF downloads need a free account.
