Common mistakes to watch for

  • Lining up the last digits instead of the decimal points, so 3.4 + 2.15 becomes 2.49.
  • Forgetting to regroup across the decimal point.
  • In 6 − 2.35, writing 4.35 because the 6 has no hundredths to subtract from.

FAQ

Why line up the decimal points?

Lining up the points lines up the places: tenths with tenths, hundredths with hundredths. Adding a zero (4.5 = 4.50) helps fill empty places.

How do you subtract a decimal from a whole number?

Write the whole number with a decimal point and zeros: 7 − 2.35 becomes 7.00 − 2.35 = 4.65.

Is every worksheet different?

Yes. Numbers are generated each time, and the answer key is calculated for that sheet. Swap any single question and its answer updates too.

Can I mix adding and subtracting decimals with other skills?

Yes. In the generator, add more skills; each gets its own section on the sheet with its own instructions.

Is it free to print?

Yes. Generating and printing from the browser is free with no sign-up. PDF downloads need a free account.
