Worksheet variations

Area counts the unit squares inside a rectangle: rows times squares in each row, or length × width. Perimeter is the distance around: add all four sides. Area is in square units; perimeter is in plain units.

Common mistakes to watch for

  • Adding two sides for the perimeter instead of all four.
  • Mixing up area and perimeter, or writing cm for an area.
  • For a missing side from the perimeter, dividing by 4 or subtracting from the whole perimeter.
