Worksheet variations

In y = a·bˣ, a is the starting value and b is the factor it is multiplied by each step. A growth of r% gives b = 1 + r/100; a decay of r% gives b = 1 − r/100.

Easyf(x) = 2(5)x, f(3) = Evaluate a·bˣMediumA town has 2,250 people, and its population grows by 5% each year. How many people will live there after 4 years? Round to the nearest whole number.Percent growthHardA car is worth $15,500 and loses 10% of its value each year. What is it worth after 2 years? Round to the nearest dollar.Percent decay

How to solve it: a worked example

Evaluate each exponential function, or solve the problem. Round where it says to.

  1. Startf(x) = 6(3)x, f(4) =
  2. Substitutef(4) = 6(3)4
  3. Powers first= 6(81)
  4. Then= 486
  5. Answer486

Common mistakes to watch for

  • Multiplying a and b before raising to the power: 3·2⁴ is 3·16 = 48, not 6⁴.
  • Using r instead of 1 + r as the growth factor.
  • Subtracting the percent once instead of multiplying by the decay factor each year.

FAQ

Is every worksheet different?

Yes. Numbers are generated each time, and the answer key is calculated for that sheet. Swap any single question and its answer updates too.

Can I mix exponential growth and decay with other skills?

Yes. In the generator, add more skills; each gets its own section on the sheet with its own instructions.

Is it free to print?

Yes. Generating and printing from the browser is free with no sign-up. PDF downloads need a free account.
